Wisconsin’s Open Records Law of 1917 guarantees its residents the ability to find, obtain, and use records kept by authorities, including arrest records, court records, marriage and divorce certificates, and records of traffic infractions, and this privilege includes the locals of Catawba. All pertinent information on the various happenings of law enforcement officials, city courts, and local government are within these records, and are deemed public unless formally redacted. Inhabitants of Catawba are able to better realize their rights because of these laws, and the transparency available from the release of these records maintains both criminals and regulators responsible with regard to their actions, in turn leading to a more open and free society for everybody.
