Due to the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, state governments adopted their own laws concerning government record transparency, and because of South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act, which observed its centennial anniversary in 2001, locals of Lake Murray of Richland can take advantage of transparency within their municipality. All crucial information about the various happenings of police officers, city courts, and local government are within these records, and are presumed public unless legally redacted. People of Lake Murray of Richland are able to better realize their rights due to these laws, and the transparency provided by the release of these records keeps both criminals and regulators liable with regard to their actions, consequently resulting in a more open and free society for everybody.
