The 1963 Ohio Open Records Law guarantees its residents the right to look up, assess, and recover records held by municipalities around the state, including documents, traffic infractions, marriage and divorce licenses, property and lien records, and much more. All pertinent facts about the multitude of happenings of authorities, city and county courts, and local government are contained in these records, and generally are presumed public unless officially redacted. Port Jeffersons law enforcement and criminals both are held accountable thanks to the openness afforded with this regulation, making Port Jefferson, and by extension the nation, a more free and open culture.
