New Mexico’s Inspection of Public Records Act guarantees its locals the ability to look for, acquire, and use records kept by government bodies, which includes arrest records, court public records, marriage and divorce certificates, and records of traffic infractions, and this privilege extends to the citizens of Kirtland. All pertinent information on the many happenings of law enforcement officials, city and county courts, and local government are contained in these records, and are assumed public unless officially redacted. Kirtlands law enforcement and criminals both are held accountable thanks to the openness afforded with this law, making Kirtland, and by proxy the country, a more free and open society.
