As a consequence of the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, state governments put into practice their own regulations concerning government record transparency, and because of Colorado’s 1969 Open Records Act, which observed its centennial anniversary in 2001, citizens of Gunnison can enjoy transparency within their local government. This statute, itself in line with the Freedom of Information Act at the national level, provides Gunnison locals with information associated with instances of governmental intervention, including the names and addresses of those involved, the situations leading up an occurrence, results and sentences handed down, and more. Because of these laws, locals of Gunnison can take advantage of transparency in their governing administration, which in turn promotes a free and open society where the people may hold both criminals and regulators alike responsible for their actions.
